Yuxi No.1 Middle School was founded in 1925 and was initially known as Yuxi County Junior High School. In 1939, Yunnan Provincial Yuxi Middle School (referred to as Yuxi Middle School) was established, with the addition of a high school department. In 1953, the Education Department of Yunnan Province recognized Yuxi Middle School as one of the seven key middle schools in the province. In 1957, it was renamed Yuxi No.1 Middle School in Yunnan Province. In 1959, it was recognized by the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee as one of the six key schools in the province.
